Are you ready for the new Digital Curriculum?
In the last half-century, technology has modernised and transformed almost every aspect of our lives. We are at a point in time where it is everywhere and in almost everything.
Through technology, our economy has become more productive and prosperous than every before; however, we are at an inflection point where the newest digital technologies, coupled with advances in robotics and automation will render many of the jobs we currently know obsolete.
While the statistics vary, most experts estimate that within a few short years, between 40% and 50% of current jobs will be disrupted or rendered obsolete by technology. A high proportion of those roles will come from within the traditionally safe ‘white collar’ roles, such as doctors, lawyers, accountants and teachers. The reality is that every job will be impacted in some way.
This will require new skills, new thinking and new approaches in preparing students for tomorrow’s more turbulent and uncertain world.
In August 2017, the SACE Board launched its new digital technology curriculum for SA schools. The launch marks the start of a professional development period in which teachers responsible for delivering the new curriculum will undertake formal learning and development activities in preparation for the first stage rollout in classrooms in 2018.
The New Venture Institute is actively working with its partners:
- NoTosh – an award winning global consultancy with a passion for learning and a conviction that innovation and creativity can change the way people think, the way they learn and the way they work
- digitalSTEM – a group of digitally-savvy teachers who were involved in developing the curriculum support materials for the new digital technologies curriculum for the SACE Board
…to build a range of innovative and experiential professional development packages for teachers.
These packages will not only help teachers understand and get up to speed with the new SACE digital curriculum, but more importantly it will show them how to integrate it into their classroom in a practical and engaging way for students.
