Venture Dorm has nearly wrapped up for Intake One, with just Limestone Coast’s huge Demo Day/eNVIsion launch to go.
Did you know we hosted Demo Day here at Tonsley a week ago? And crowned the best pitch AND City of Adelaide Left Field scholarship? It was an amazing night. Every pitch exceeded our expectations and that of the judges (Nicola Craven of PWC, Wilson Ndung’u of City of Onkaparina, Jim Hannon-Tan of JHT Design and Stuart Snyder, who is a long time Venture Dorm mentor and business guru) – and we were left with a difficult decision.
CONGRATULATIONS TO JANVHI, FOUNDER OF FEEL THE BEATZ!
Janvhi’s business, Feel the Beatz is an online mecca for dance videos. Much like the videos hosted on the website, her pitch didn’t miss a beat, gave the audience plenty of hard facts about its growth and outreach efforts and made us think ‘I can’t believe this doesn’t exist yet and where do I sign up?!’
For her contribution to the City of Adelaide’s vision for a SMART, GREEN, LIVEABLE and CREATIVE city, Janvhi was also awarded the CoA’s Left Field scholarship prize.
Both the Demo Day and Left Field prizes go toward Janvhi joining the eNVI.US19 Startup Founder’s mission to the US in 2020. She’ll also pitch at the annual eNVIes for her chance to win the Gold eNVIe.
This Venture Dorm intake was full of innovative, creative and diligent founders and some really unique businesses – WELL DONE to all of our graduates, some of who are pictured below.
Venture Dorm is for anyone with a great idea. Or maybe you’re not sure that it’s great? Venture Dorm is for those ideas too.
8 weeks of breakthroughs, mastering the basic and not-so basic of business and learning how to pitch it, a-ha! moments and some seriously hard work. But as all of our founders would agree – it’s the type of hard work that helps you establish a startup. We’re now accepting applications for the next intake and it’s shaping up to be another incredible round. Find out more by following the link below!
MEET: Dru Reschke, Top Dog and Director at Koonara Wines, a certified organic winery in Coonawarra on the Limestone Coast. Dru and his wife Nicole built the winery on their property, which has been in the family for 110 years. Dru’s also a designer, responsible for all of their wine labels and he holds an international design patent for a wine and sparkling glass that has a sharp curve indicating one glass, so restaurants know where to pour until. Plus, more glass designs are being launched this year under their brand Savour. Talented guy!
JOINED NVI: Dru’s been a longtime friend of NVI, joining us at our first Entrepreneurs in Conversation on the Limestone Coast, alongside Ashlee Kalantarian, previous Venture Dorm winner. He went on to be a regular mentor for Venture Dorm on the Limestone Coast, and this Thursday will sit on the Demo Day panel as a judge as our finalist Venture Dormers pitch their businesses. Dru is a big fan of the program, and has great things to say about his experiences with NVI: “I love seeing the ideas coming out, and love trying to help new startups in their quest to build their businesses. I’m always surprised at how amazing some of the ideas are, and their potential to scale.”
FUTURE: Aside from his duties as a Demo Day judge, Dru and the team have plenty on. They love their pop-up parties at Koonara, and on the 7th of July will host a Retro Winter Warmer with Vinnies, where people are invited to dress in their op-shop 70’s and 80’s retro. The 5th of December is the Platinum Marquee at the Gold Cup in Mt Gambier and all of the 2019 white wines are already being released due to being sold out of last vintage.
It’s an exciting life for Dru and his team at Koonara, and we’re looking forward to working with them more in the future. Until then – you better organise some transport to Coonawarra for their Vinnies/Retro Winter Warmer party!
Just one day to go until the Demo Day and eNVIsion Limestone Coast launch. Another fantastic group of startups ready to pitch before carefully selected judges, as part of the Venture Dorm Pre-Accelerator Program.
We put together a blog so you know who’s up for the main prize, even if you can’t be there to watch yourself. From desserts, eco-solutions, a brewery, VR with a twist and a new take on the humble sock, it’s a group worth getting to know.
