STEMeD Workshop

April 20, 2017 @ 8:30 am - April 21, 2017 @ 4:30 pm

The Innovation in Schools – STEMeD Workshop has been designed by teachers in South Australian schools who identified a need to build staff and student expertise in the art and science of innovation and invention to support the delivery of STEM and Digital Technologies Curricula.

https _cdn.evbuc.com_images_29878317_105973768763_1_originalThe STEMeD workshop at the Tonsley Innovation Hub on the 20th and 21st April will connect passionate, forward thinking educators with community minded business partners to create viable solutions to problems that matter…and in the process build our collective innovation capacity. Participants will engage with innovative industries to identify and define STEMeD problems before sprinting through a structured Design Thinking process to generate and pitch prototyped solutions. The problems, processes and solutions will be shared with the broader education community to enable students in every classroom in South Australia to engage with and ideate on genuine STEMeD and Digital Technologies problems that matter.

Workshop participants (students, teachers, school community members) will use the “Human Centered Design” process to develop an innovative solution to a problem of local significance whilst being supported by experienced ‘Ed-trepreneurial’ mentors within the hub of innovation and entrepreneurship at Flinders – the New Venture Institute.

This workshop is for innovative educators who are passionate about a future focussed approach to education. We are inviting you to be part of an exclusive team that will work closely with our industry partners to solve real world STEMeD problems. Our industry and education partners are so passionate about our approach, that we are able to offer you the 2 day workshop (valued at over $300) completely free of charge for the first 15 applicants and only $50 for the remainder.

This workshop will initially provide an introduction to the current “state of play” with regards to the implementation of STEM and Digital Technologies curriculum in order to “set the scene” for the remainder of the workshop. Participants will then engage with STEM and Digital Technologies Industry representatives to identify and define real world problems within the STEM and DIgital technologies space.

In the second part of the workshop we will build collaborative teams before leading you through the Human Centered Design process to “innovate” a solution to the identified industry problems, under the guidance of experienced Innovation and Human Centered Design Coaches. By the end of the workshop, teams will have engaged in a human centered design process to prototype solutions to real world STEM and Digital Technologies Industry Problems.

Through the workshop, we will have identified a number of STEMeD problems and used a human centered design process to generate viable solutions to those problems whilst mapping our work to the Australian Curriculum outcomes. Participants will walk away with a problem based approach to STEMeD that is ready for them to trial and implement in their local setting.
