Innovation in Schools Workshop

July 18, 2016 @ 9:00 am - July 19, 2016 @ 5:00 pm

$150

The impact of a range of forces including “digital disruption”, “automation”and “porous boundaries” means that it is estimated that 44 per cent of jobs in Australia are at a potentially high risk of being replaced. (Tomorrow’s digitally enabled workforce, CSIRO, 2016). This has profound implications for what we do on a day to day basis as teachers and leaders in the education sector.

“The nature of the education sector continues to evolve. Educators need to turn their attention to creating environments and platforms where students can learn what they need to learn when they need to, and instilling in them the habits of mind, attitudes and behaviours that will enable them to thrive in today’s (and tomorrow’s) knowledge-rich environment.” (The Paradigm Shift: Redefining Education, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, 2015)

At the New Venture Institute we believe that to teach in the modern world, we need to live and work in it. In this world of digital disruption and exponential change, we need to inspire our teachers, students and leaders to develop expertise in the art and science of innovation and invention.

“Teaching in the innovation age” is an immersive 2 day overview of “ed-treprenurial” mindsets – Those mindsets that enable our teachers, leaders and students to embrace the pace of change, identify opportunities for innovation and take calculated risks to create experiences of value in the modern context.

The workshop will initially provide an introduction to the current “state of play” in the Australian Workforce, drawing on research to identify the major trends and their potential impact in the education space along with insights from industries that have experienced the whirlwind that is digital disruption, and lived to tell the tale. The second part of the workshop will step participants through a human centred design process that will enable them to “innovate” their school or classroom resulting in a “pitch” for an agile, short lead time school based innovation.
