FREE Feed Your Brain Session – The changing barriers to doing business.

April 8, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Traditional businesses are suffering in the face of changing tools and business models. Darren Oemcke will describe how models of competitive advantage have changed and what has caused them to change in the last 5 years.

All these barriers are significantly modified or destroyed in the 20-teens with the advent of new models such as two-sided markets, adjacent market utilisation, effective direct customer targeting, complete customer and payment data aggregation, the maturing of social media, SaaS and platformisation.

Business that often under-service customers, relying rather on traditional barriers like restricted distribution, economies of scale, regulatory barriers, high-cost of capital, high switching costs,  and bundled products and services, undifferentiated network effects are being eaten by companies that best integrate their business models to the needs of customers.

Darren Oemcke consults in the areas of business modernisation and business performance and also works with a range of start-ups on developing their business and models in the retail, tourism, water, environment, manufacturing and health sectors. He has extensive experience in product development and commercialisation, working with international businesses like Veolia, Pernod Ricard, Goretex, CK Life Sciences, Siemens and Valent.
